Sweetbay Magnolia (Magnolia virginiana) is a showy flowering tree, which is very popular as a landscape tree in the world of native plants. It has a nicely rounded crown and usually a multi-stem trunk. In the spring they are known for their cup-shaped fragrant white flowers. The shiny green leaves with silvery undersides can be semi-evergreen in warmer climates. The showy white flowers give way to cone-like fruits that are a bright red color, eaten by birds and small mammals.
